Painting 2 - Final Show

At the University of LaVerne the students are required to hang a final show of their work to present to the faculty, friends and family. Having been a Teaching Assistant to these novice, yet determined painters I was able to photograph their work as they prepared for their final show.

Flowers and Leaves - materials of life

The students were asked at the beginning of the semester to address "Material Substance" in their work and present 6 paintings that addressed that topic and what it means for them. The results are as varied as the students themselves.

From pigment to decay - the life of a painting.

Wine glass - holding or spilling. Wine or a simulacra of wine?
This piece took several people to hang properly. Do you think it is still painting or installation? Does it matter?

Color and line transforming.

Transformation of the life of a tree.
Peer as critic and collaborator.

The properties of wood.

The space and the collaboration of installation.
Studio Art is fun.

Line, color, and shape transform to human face.

Underwater life.

Materials - paper as scales, cotton, feathers, yarn, and more - material substance.

Deep underwater creatures.

The science of materiality.

Life of...

Tree - from dirt to death.

Safety in preparing to hang work.

I will miss these students as they move on to new adventures in their life.
Great Job!
