ABOUT

I am passionate about these things:

My painting process and all that is involved in improving my craft.
Material use and things that can be used to make art.

Promoting and encouraging art in the community in which I live.
Promoting and encouraging art that is made in collaboration.

Terrific artists and what they have to teach.
Finding out more about the capital letter: Art World.

New tools and supplies that make the work of creating ever more exciting.
The best places to buy art supplies in Los Angeles, on-line and all over.

Seeing art shows, exhibits and documentaries.
Talking about what I see happening in the daily world of building an art career.

Random Fun Facts:

Studio Shot of in progress Work. 2012
Interesting things that contribute to my art: I see decay, garbage, splotches that others ignore, I always want to put things in their place or find a place for everything, I see patterns and abstractions in the most unlikely places, I seem to have this need to cover every inch of my canvases even when I try to leave some space - someone told me it is called horror vacui, a horrible sounding name. I really like re-using used materials on the surfaces of my paintings like small bits of canvas or paper or small found items.

I  became an artist because I want to keep exploring through making, I love creating my own version of reality or at the very least a simulacra.

I love the freedom of being an artist. I work really hard at what I do to maintain what I have in my life.

Projects I am working on: my MFA at CGU, a series of paintings (I never do just one painting at a time), this blog

Career success or education that I am proud of: Carnegie Mellon University, St Johns art program creation, selling work at a co-op gallery Artists of the Valley Gallery

Time outside the studio: boot camp, hiking or walking, time with family, visiting new places and museums and historical centers all around Los Angeles, travel, swimming, and going to the beach

How am I making a difference in other peoples life?
My kids know they can trust me to be there for them, the people that I teach get to be with someone who cares about creativity building and seeing the visual world in a more educated way as well as problem solving through guided art lessons, and my my collectors tell me they continue to enjoy the pieces that they have purchased.

These things and more make me happy.
