While there are hundreds of places to buy art supplies both retail and on-line below are the places I frequent most often.
New canvases to be used soon! |
Resources for Art Supplies
Regular Art Stores
Dick Blick - sign-up if you are a student and you will get deeper discounts, the more you spend the more they give you snail mail specials, Santa Monica store is my first choice in the Southern California area
Utrecht - simple easy to use stores, not a lot of fluff, new store in Fullerton, CA
Art Supply Warehouse - I like the store better than the web-site, the Westminster, CA store has excellent service but call ahead for particular items before you go because they are a very busy store and do run out of items, web-site has a $15 minimum purchase

MerriArtist - good prices and excellent selection of Flashe Paint and more than one brand of encaustics product
Cheap Joes - this on-line retailer is great fun, the first time you buy from them they send a gift, larger orders get gifts too usually, best for water color stuff
Nova Color - the BEST acrylic paint ever and the store in Los Angeles is something to be experienced
Micheals - in a pinch this place will do, better for crafty stuff
Daniel Smith - I have not used their services but I know artists who do, orders over $200 ship free, plus hey are a Seattle based store and my brother lives there
Pearl Art - 5 locations in larger cities and Los Angeles is one of them, on-line too, rumors of them going out of business in New York but I am not hearing that around Los Angeles
While that makes Top 9 Art suppliers that I currently use I add:
Amazon - because this list would not be complete without Amazon, for the hard-to-find item it is sometimes the best place to shop

It's a good thing is that we can buy art supplies online nowadays that it's no longer an excuse that we can't do creative art because of unavailability
ReplyDeleteSo true. And the choices are numerous - I left out so many on this list!
