My bucket was almost empty - that's when I know it is time to fill it. |
The whole shirt. As well as some studio mess. I know some of my artist friends go to the Salvation Army to buy shirts to cut up for rags. I have a husband and two son's to "borrow" from!
I do not use the cuffs - the fabric is too thick and the buttons cause hazards for my paintings.
Yep, this was an expensive rag. One shirt can yield about 24 rags. One painting session can use up to 4 rags or more.
Sometime soon I will tell a bit more of the story of how I make tools you see above and how I paint with them. Check back soon!
What kind of rags do you use? Where do you get them from? Do you make your own? Please share.
Nice post Suzanne! Nothing like using top quality Ralph threads - our paintings deserve top shelf material ;) I've picked up a few tips from this including the salvos for old sheets and shirts if I can't borrow from hubby's closet. Looking forward to seeing the tools you speak of at the end of your post. Hugs from down under.
ReplyDeleteThanks Robin - it is funny the Ralph stuff! I like how you say our paintings deserve the best - that will stick with me next time I am lucky enough to chop up one of those!
